The Maextro S800 is expected to target the luxury executive sedan market, with potential rivals set to include the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7 Series, Audi A8, and Nio ET9.
The first model of Maextro, a new automotive brand jointly created by Chinese tech giant Huawei and Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group (JAC), will be unveiled in a few days to target the luxury market.
Maextro's first model, named the Maextro S800, will debut at an event for Huawei's Mate series of smartphones on November 26, starting at 2:30 pm Beijing time, the Chinese tech company announced today.
Huawei will unveil the Mate 70 series of smartphones at the launch event. Several of its previous new product launch events have also involved the launch of cars.
Maextro is the fourth new brand launched by Huawei with a local car company and the most highly positioned under its HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance) umbrella.
The other three brands under the HIMA business are Stelato, which Huawei co-built with BAIC Group, Aito, which it built with Seres Group, and Luxeed, which it built with Chery.
The Maextro S800 is aimed at the luxury executive sedan market, and potential competitors will include the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7 Series, Audi A8, and Nio (NYSE: NIO) ET9.
At about 5.5 meters in length, the model probably outclasses 99.99 percent of sedans on the road, Richard Yu, Huawei's managing director and chairman of the smart car solutions business unit, said in a Weibo video yesterday.
The sedan has an impressive exterior and a spacious interior, Yu said.
As a comparison, a Nio ET9 measures 5,325 mm in length, 2,017 mm in width and 1,621 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,250 mm, according to a regulatory filing. The Nio model was unveiled at Nio Day 2023 last December and deliveries are expected to begin in March next year.
Pricing information for the Maextro S800 is unknown. The Nio ET9 has a pre-sale price of RMB 800,000 ($110,410).
Last December 1, JAC announced that it and Huawei reached an agreement to collaborate on product development, manufacturing, sales, and services based on Huawei's smart car solutions.
The goal of the two is to create luxury smart, internet-connected electric vehicles that meet the higher needs and expectations of users, JAC said at the time.
JAC was Nio's initial vehicle manufacturing partner. Nio did not acquire its own vehicle manufacturing credentials in its early days and instead manufactured vehicles under the name of JAC.
Late last year, Nio gained independent vehicle-building status and acquired some factory assets under JAC, giving it the right to operate its F1 and F2 factories independently.
