BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) posted another record month of sales last month, as hybrid models maintained strong growth.

The company sold 502,657 new energy vehicles (NEVs) in October, surpassing the 500,000 mark for the first time and marking the fifth consecutive month of record highs, according to data released today.

That's up 66.53 percent from 301,833 in the same period last year and up 19.84 percent from 419,426 in September.

BYD ceased production and sales of vehicles powered entirely by internal combustion engines in March 2022, switching to focus on the production of plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV) models.

BYD's NEVs include passenger cars as well as commercial vehicles, with sales of passenger NEVs totaling 500,526 units in October, up 66.24 percent year-on-year and up 19.86 percent from September.

Its commercial NEVs sold 2,131 units in October, up 188.75 percent from a year ago and up 16.90 percent from September.

BYD sold 189,614 units of passenger BEVs in October, up 14.57 percent from a year ago and up 14.95 percent from September.

Sales of passenger PHEVs in October were 310,912 units, the eighth consecutive record high since March. That's up 129.30 percent year-on-year and up 23.06 percent from September.

In October, BYD sold 31,192 vehicles in overseas markets, up 2.20 percent year-on-year but down 5.51 percent from September.

Of the overseas sales in October, 28,012 units were exported from China, according to BYD. This is the first time it has released export figures.

In addition to being China's largest NEV company, BYD is also China's second-largest power battery maker.

BYD's installed base of power and energy storage batteries was about 21.018 GWh in October, up 37.50 percent year-on-year and up 6.15 percent from September.

Year-to-date performance

In the January-October period, BYD's NEV sales amounted to 3,250,532 units, up 36.49 percent year-on-year.

Its passenger NEVs sold 3,236,927 units in January-October, up 36.50 percent year-on-year.

Commercial NEVs sold 13,605 units in the first 10 months, up 34.42 percent year-on-year.

BYD's passenger BEVs sold 1,359,193 units in January-October, up 11.97 percent year-on-year.

BYD's passenger PHEVs sold 1,877,734 units in January-October, up 62.23 percent year-on-year.

BYD sold 329,073 units overseas in January-October, up 86.93 percent year-on-year.

BYD's installed capacity of power and energy storage batteries amounted to about 148.738 GWh in January-October, a year-on-year increase of 27.98 percent.
