BYD sold 164,956 passenger BEVs in September, up 9.1 percent year-on-year, and 252,647 PHEVs, its seventh consecutive record high since March, up 86.17 percent.
BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) continued to see strong sales growth last month, driven largely by hot sales of its hybrid models.
The new energy vehicle (NEV) maker sold a record 419,426 NEVs in September, its fourth consecutive month of record highs, according to figures it released today.
That's up 45.91 percent from 287,454 in the same month last year and up 12.42 percent from 373,083 in August.
BYD ceased production and sales of vehicles powered entirely by internal combustion engines in March 2022, switching to focus on the production of plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV) models.
BYD's NEVs include passenger cars as well as commercial vehicles, with passenger NEVs selling 417,603 units in September, up 45.56 percent year-on-year and up 12.61 percent from August.
Its commercial NEVs sold 1,823 units in September, up 230.85 percent from a year ago but down 12.21 percent from August.
BYD sold 164,956 units of passenger BEVs in September, up 9.1 percent from a year ago and up 11.1 percent from August.
BYD sold 252,647 passenger PHEVs in September, its seventh consecutive record high since March. That's up 86.17 percent year-on-year and up 13.61 percent from August.
In September, BYD sold 33,012 vehicles in overseas markets, up 17.74 percent year-on-year and up 4.96 percent from August.
BYD first announced its overseas sales figures for NEVs in July 2022.
In addition to being China's largest NEV company, BYD is also China's second-largest power battery maker.
BYD's installed base of power and energy storage batteries amounted to about 19.8 GWh in September, up 38 percent year-on-year and up 5.06 percent from August.
Q3 Performance
In the third quarter, BYD's NEV sales were a record 1,134,892 units, marking the first time the company's sales exceeded 1 million units in a single quarter.
That's a 37.73 percent increase year-on-year and a 15.02 percent increase from the second quarter.
Its passenger NEVs sold a record 1,129,256 units in the third quarter, up 37.36 percent year-on-year and 14.91 percent from the second quarter.
Commercial NEVs sold 5,636 units in the third quarter, up 195.54 percent year-on-year and up 41.86 percent from the second quarter.
BYD's passenger BEVs sold 443,426 units in the third quarter, up 2.74 percent year-on-year and up 4.08 percent from the second quarter.
Passenger PHEVs sold 685,830 units in the third quarter, up 75.63 percent year-on-year and up 23.19 percent from the second quarter.
BYD sold 94,477 NEVs in overseas markets in the third quarter, up 32.63 percent year-on-year but down 10.45 percent from the second quarter.
BYD's installed base of power and energy storage batteries amounted to about 55.165 GWh in the third quarter, up 35.6 percent year-on-year and up 28.83 percent from the second quarter.
Year-to-date performance
In the January-September period, BYD's NEV sales amounted to 2,747,875 units, up 32.13 percent year-on-year.
Its passenger NEVs sold 2,736,401 units in January-September, up 32.18 percent year-on-year.
Commercial NEVs sold 11,474 units in the first nine months, up 22.28 percent year-on-year.
BYD's passenger BEVs sold 164,956 units in January-September, up 11.56 percent year-on-year.
Passenger PHEVs sold 1,566,822 units in January-September, up 53.33 percent year-on-year.
BYD sold 297,881 units overseas in January-September, up 104.7 percent year-on-year.
BYD's installed capacity of power and energy storage batteries amounted to about 127.720 GWh in January-September, up 26.54 percent year-on-year.
