BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has launched the Yuan Pro in Brazil -- known as the Yuan Up in China -- the latest model it offers in the South American country.
The Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker rolled out the compact all-electric SUV (sport utility vehicle) at a launch event in Brazil on September 5, making it its 11th model in the country.
The Yuan Pro starts at R$182,800 (US$32,530) in Brazil and offers a NEDC range of up to 380 kilometers.
The model is based on BYD's e-Platform 3.0 and measures 4,310 mm in length, 1,830 mm in width and 1,675 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,620 mm.
The Yuan Pro is intended to be the first electric vehicle for many young Brazilians, BYD said.
The model initially went on sale in China on March 26 this year at a starting price of RMB 96,800 yuan ($13,610).
In Brazil, BYD became one of the top 10 local automakers in April, according to the company.
In the global market, BYD ranked eighth in the world by sales in the first half of 2024.
BYD opened its 100th store in Brazil on May 23, when it said it planned to bring the number of its dealership stores in the country to 250 by the end of the year.
BYD is building local production facilities in Brazil.
On July 4, 2023, BYD and the government of the state of Bahia announced that it would set up a large manufacturing site complex consisting of three plants in Brazil.
The industrial complex includes a production plant that focuses on electric bus and truck chassis, a new energy passenger vehicle production plant, and a processing plant specializing in lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery materials.
The new energy passenger car production line will be able to produce pure electric models and plug-in hybrids, with a planned annual capacity of 150,000 units.
