Rox Motor, a lesser-known Chinese electric vehicle (EV) startup, is preparing to ramp up its efforts in the international arena to avoid stiff competition in the domestic market.
Rox Motor announced today that it has signed exclusive distribution agreements with partners from Qatar, Kuwait, Azerbaijan, the Philippines, and Egypt to launch sales channels and customer service systems in these five emerging markets.
This marks the full initiation of Rox Motor's efforts to enter overseas markets, which will cover the Middle East, Africa, and Central Asia, it said today at the Chengdu auto show.
Notably, Rox Motor is already providing localized services in the UAE, where its current sole model, the Rox 01, has become one of the choices for the UAE police force.
The Rox 01 Hunting Edition, built specifically for Middle Eastern customers, will be officially unveiled at the Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (ADIHEX) in September, the company said.
Rox Motor will next launch a new product every year to bring more youthful and innovative products to users worldwide, it said.
Rox Motor is an unknown brand, but its founder Chang Jing is one of China's most successful entrepreneurs.
Chang, who is the founder and CEO of Xiaomi ecosystem company and robot vacuum maker Roborock, incorporated Rox Motor in January 2021.
The company launched its first model Rox 01 on August 22, 2023, an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) designed to compete with Li Auto's (NASDAQ: LI) models.
The Rox 01 is available in 7-seat and 6-seat versions, and is currently priced at RMB 299,900 ($42,300) and RMB 309,900, respectively.
Based on insights into family traveling scenarios, the Rox 01 combines the strengths of a hardcore crossover, urban SUV, luxury MPV and saloon to provide an all-terrain driving experience, the company said.
