The Seal 06 GT will be the first GT model for young people and the industry's first rear-wheel-drive, all-electric performance hatchback, said BYD.
BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) unveiled the Seal 06 GT, a new model in its Seal lineup, as the new energy vehicle (NEV) giant further expands its product matrix.
BYD today debuted the Seal 06 GT, a production version of the Ocean-M concept that was unveiled at the Beijing auto show in late April, on the first day of the Chengdu auto show.
The NEV maker began accepting consumer reservations for the Seal 06 GT today, making no mention of what variants it will come in, only offering a price range of RMB 150,000 ($21,150) to RMB 200,000 yuan.
The Seal 06 GT will be the first GT (Grand Tourer) model for young people and the industry's first rear-wheel-drive, all-electric performance hatchback, BYD said.
Based on BYD's latest all-electric platform, the e-Platform 3.0 Evo, the car measures 4,630 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width and 1,490 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm.
BYD seems to want the Seal 06 GT to be an electric version of the Golf GTI -- one of Volkswagen's most iconic models and one that is known for its sportiness and easy handling.
The Seal 06 GT is available in single-motor and dual-motor options, with the single-motor version featuring two different motors with maximum power of 160 kW and 165 kW respectively, while the dual-motor version has front and rear motors with power of 110 kW and 200 kW respectively.
The car is built on an 800 V silicon carbide high-voltage platform and can be charged from 30 percent to 80 percent in 20 minutes, BYD said.
BYD has also optimized the car's charging speed when it's about to be fully charged, going from 80 percent to 100 percent in just 18 minutes.
For an electric vehicle, charging is usually faster when the charge is low, and the charging power drops dramatically when it's about to be fully charged to ensure safety.
The Seal 06 GT is equipped with the D-Link 100 cockpit system and the D-Pilot intelligent driver assistance system. Its cockpit supports continuous dialog.
