BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has released the first official images of the Seal 06 GT, the production version of the Ocean-M concept, with the model's debut just six days away.
The new energy vehicle (NEV) maker shared three images of the Seal 06 GT on Weibo today, showing the front, side and rear of the model.
The exterior of the Seal 06 GT has a sporty and performance car look but not as aggressive as the design of the Ocean-M concept.
The Seal 06 GT will be the first GT model for young people, says BYD.
BYD unveiled the Ocean-M at the 2024 Beijing auto show in late April, saying at the time that it would be the industry's first rear-drive performance hatchback.
The production Ocean-M will go on sale in the third quarter of this year, with a price range of RMB 150,000 ($21,050) to RMB 200,000, BYD said at the time.
The Ocean-M will be built on BYD's new all-electric platform and will be powered by a new generation of C2B (cell to body) batteries, BYD said.
Zhang Zhuo, head of BYD's Ocean series, said on Weibo yesterday that the production version of the Ocean-M concept is named the Seal 06 GT.
The model will be unveiled at the Chengdu auto show on August 30 and is intended to be the GT model of choice for young people, he said.
This year's Chengdu auto show will begin on August 30 and last until September 8. Chengdu is the capital city of Sichuan province in southwest China.
BYD seems to want the Seal 06 GT to be an electric version of the Golf GTI -- one of Volkswagen's most iconic models and known for its sportiness and easy handling.
