The starting price of the 2025 Song Plus EV remains unchanged at RMB 149,800 ($20,980), but the top-trim variant is priced 7.38 percent lower.
BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has rolled out the 2025 model year update to its all-electric Song Plus EV, less than half a year after the SUV's (sport utility vehicle) predecessor was launched.
The Chinese new energy-vehicle (NEV) maker today announced the launch of the 2025 Song Plus EV, which keeps the starting price at RMB 149,800 ($20,980) but with upgraded features.
The 2025 Song Plus EV is offered in three variants, including two with a CLTC range of 520 kilometers and one with a range of 605 kilometers, with starting prices of RMB 149,800, RMB 159,800, and RMB 175,800, respectively.
The previously available Song Plus EV Glory Edition was launched on February 29 this year and included three variants with a CLTC range of 520 km as well as one with a range of 605 km, with starting prices of RMB 149,800, RMB 159,800, RMB 169,800, and RMB 189,800 respectively.
This means that the updated Song Plus EV has canceled the variant that was previously priced at RMB 169,800. The prices of its two entry-level variants remain unchanged, while the price of the highest priced variant has been reduced by RMB 14,000, or 7.38 percent.
The 2025 Song Plus EV remains unchanged from its predecessor in terms of core specifications, with the two entry-level variants continuing to use a single motor with 150 kW of peak power and 310 Nm of peak torque.
The highest priced variant continues to use a single motor with 160 kW of peak power and 330 Nm of peak torque.
The 2025 Song Plus EV with a CLTC range of 520 kilometers is powered by a blade battery with a capacity of 71.8 kWh, while the highest priced variant has a battery pack with a capacity of 87.04 kWh.
All variants of the model can accelerate from 0 to 50 kilometers per hour in 4.0 seconds, same as its predecessor.
Outside of the core specifications, the 2025 Song Plus EV adds wireless charging for cell phones with up to 50 W power support, and support for steering wheel heating.
The model is equipped with the latest DiLink 100 cockpit system with full support for 5G network connectivity across the range. Its predecessor supported 5G network connectivity only in the highest priced variant, while the other variants supported only 4G networks.
The Song family is the best-selling BYD lineup, but it is easy to get confused in the division of BYD's product array, which has both the Song models in the Dynasty range and those included in the Ocean range.
The Song L DM-i, Song L EV, and Song Pro DM-i are part of the Dynasty series, while the Song Plus DM-i and Song Plus EV are part of the Ocean series, the only ones in the Ocean Series to be named after a Chinese dynasty.
BYD's other Ocean series models are named after sea creatures and ships. DM stands for BYD's plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) model, while EV is battery electric vehicle (BEV) model.
The 2025 Song Plus DM-i went on sale on July 25 at a starting price of RMB 135,800 and features BYD's latest DM 5.0 hybrid technology.
BYD sold 1,955,366 NEVs in January-July 2024, up 28.83 percent year-on-year, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
The Song family, which sold 471,805 units in January-July, was the top-selling BYD model, contributing 24.13 percent of BYD brand sales.
