China's retail sales of passenger new energy vehicles (NEVs) amounted to 274,000 units in August 1-11, up 57 percent from the same period last year and up 25 percent from the same period last month, data released today by China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) showed.

So far this year, cumulative retail sales of passenger NEVs in China totaled 4,387,000 units, up 34 percent from the same period last year.

Wholesale sales of passenger NEVs from August 1-11 were 221,000 units, up 29 percent from the same period last year and up 16 percent from the same period last month, according to the CPCA.

So far this year, the cumulative wholesale sales of China's passenger NEVs stood at 4.841 million units, up 30 percent from the same period last year.

From August 1-11, China's retail sales of all passenger vehicles were 521,000 units, up 7 percent compared with the same period last year and up 16 percent from the same period last month.

So far this year, cumulative retail sales of all passenger vehicles in China totaled 12.088 million units, up 3 percent year-on-year.

This means that China's NEV penetration at retail stood at 52.59 percent from August 1-11 and 36.29 percent year-to-date.

China's retail sales of NEVs in July were 878,000 units, the first time penetration has exceeded 50 percent on a monthly basis, according to data released by the CPCA earlier this month.

Since mid-to-late July, manufacturers and dealers have been rolling back promotions and stabilizing prices to maintain channel stability, the CPCA said in the report today.

In early August, hot weather vacations for car companies were seen more intensively, leading to more volatile sales trends, according to the report.

Recently, manufacturers have reduced production and sales pressure at the beginning of the month due to pressure on dealers and market price changes, and sales should pick up in the second half of August, the CPCA said.

In the first week of August -- August 1-4 -- China's average daily retail sales of passenger cars were 41,015, up 2 percent year-on-year and up 5 percent from the same period last month.

In the second week of August -- August 5-11 -- average daily retail sales of passenger cars in China were 50,984, up 10 percent year-on-year and up 23 percent from the same period last month.

For August 1-11, China's wholesale sales of all passenger cars were 387,000 units, down 15 percent year-on-year but up 14 percent from the same period last month.

During August 1-4, China's average daily wholesale sales of passenger cars were 24,432, down 31 percent year-on-year and down 12 percent from the same period last month.

From August 5-11, average daily wholesale sales of passenger cars in China were 41,311, down 8 percent year-on-year, but up 26 percent from the same period last month.

Year-to-date cumulative wholesale sales of passenger cars in China totaled 14.107 million units, up 4 percent year-on-year.
