Neta Auto, a brand owned by Chinese electric vehicle (EV) firm Hozon Auto, has started the pre-sales of the shooting brake variant of its flagship sedan, the Neta S. The new model is expected to go on sale later this month and start deliveries next month.

The Neta S shooting brake has a pre-sale starting price of RMB 175,900 ($24,520), and customers who pay RMB 99 to reserve the model now will get RMB 1,000 off their purchase, Neta announced on its social media channels today.

The Neta S shooting brake will first be available in extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variants, with the battery electric vehicle (BEV) variants to be launched at a later date, similar to what it did when it launched the Neta L SUV (sport utility vehicle).

The Neta S shooting brake is available for pre-sale in three EREV variants -- the 300 Standard, 300 Pro, and 300 Max -- at a starting price of RMB 175,900, RMB 189,900, and RMB 209,900 respectively.

The BEV variant of the Neta S shooting brake will be built on the 800 V high-voltage platform that supports 5C charging multiplier, according to the company.

The model measures 4,980 mm in length, 1,980 mm in width and 1,480 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,980 mm.

All three of its EREV variants are powered by Neta's Haozhi 2.0 EREV system and come standard with a battery pack with a capacity of 43.88 kWh.

All three variants have a 300-kilometer CLTC battery range and a range of 1,200 kilometers on a full tank of fuel and full charge, according to Neta's announcement.

The Neta S shooting brake comes standard with a permanent magnet synchronous motor with a peak power of 200 kW, said Neta, without revealing its 0-100 km/h acceleration time.

The model's cockpit is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155P chip that supports an AI (artificial intelligence) voice system, according to Neta.

The two lower-priced variants of the Neta S shooting brake EREV come with the Neta AD driver assistance system, which uses the Journey 3 chip from local chipmaker Horizon Robotics.

Its highest-priced variant features the Neta AD Max driver assistance system, which uses Nvidia's Orin X chip and additionally features AT 128 LiDAR from Hesai Group (NASDAQ: HSAI).

Originally launched on July 31, 2022, the Neta S is Neta's first effort in the mid-to-high-end market and is available in EREV and BEV versions.

The 2024 Neta S, currently on sale, was rolled out on July 31, 2023, and is offered in seven versions, including three EREV variants and four BEV variants, with a starting price in the range of RMB 154,800 to RMB 224,800.

The Neta S shooting brake will go on sale in August and volume deliveries will begin in September, Hozon CEO Zhang Yong said on June 28 at the launch event for the BEV variant of the Neta L.

Sedan derivatives are a niche market in China, and the number of previously available hunting or wagon variants has been minimal.

The 001, the first model from Geely's Zeekr (NYSE: ZK), is the local automaker's first foray into this segment, and it's been an unexpected success. The model currently has a starting price of RMB 269,000 in China.

Nio launched the ET5 Touring in China on June 15, 2023, at the same price as the regular ET5 sedan, starting at RMB 298,000 including the battery, and is the second local model targeting the segment.

BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) also now has several models in the shooting brake style.

Neta's current lineup includes the Neta S, Neta GT sports car, Neta L, Neta Aya SUV, and Neta X SUV.

Neta delivered 11,015 vehicles in July, up 9.72 percent year-on-year and up 7.93 percent from June, according to data it released on August 1.

In the January-July period, Neta delivered 64,785 vehicles, down 10.59 percent year-on-year.
