A video shared by Xpeng's CEO shows that the company's AI robot can complete the entire process of booking the Mona M03, except for payment.
Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) continues to warm up the Mona array's first model, the M03, as the official launch gets closer.
He Xiaopeng, chairman and CEO of the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker, shared a video on Weibo today showing Xpeng's AI (Artificial Intelligence) robot being able to fulfill reservations for the Xpeng Mona M03.
"The reservations for Mona M03 are hot these days, I let my iron assistant experience the reservation process as well, and it's quite smooth," Mr. He wrote on Weibo today.
The robot hand is highly flexible and has haptic capabilities, and can handle very delicate tasks in industrial scenarios in the future, he said, adding that Xpeng will announce new developments in AI and large-scale hardware later this year.
The video shows the AI robot being able to pre-order an Xpeng Mona M03 by clicking the buttons on a smartphone screen and completing almost all processes.
Only the face recognition during payment was something the robot was unable to do, and Mr. He said he assisted with the payment operation.
Xpeng began accepting pre-orders for the Mona M03 at 10:00 am Beijing time on August 8, and customers who pay a RMB 99 ($13.8) deposit will receive a RMB 3,000 discount on the purchase of the car.
On August 9, Mr. He said on Weibo that the first production cars of the Xpeng Mona M03 had rolled off the production line, and that the company's team was preparing for quick deliveries of the model once it hit the market.
Xpeng made the Mona M03 all-electric sedan debut on July 3, saying at the time that the official launch would be in August.
The company has yet to announce an official launch date for the Xpeng Mona M03, which CnEVPost has learned is expected to be in 2 weeks.
In addition to its EV business, Xpeng has flying car and robotics businesses.
The company's robotics manufacturing arm, Xpeng Robotics, was founded in 2016 and raised over $100 million in July 2022 in Series A funding.
At last year's tech day event on October 24, Xpeng unveiled a new bipedal robot, the PX5, which it said can achieve bipedal walking and obstacle-crossing abilities.
In the future, Xpeng would apply Xnet deep neural network, XEEA, XGPT and other smart EV technologies to intelligent robots, the company said at the time.
