The launch of the 2025 BYD Seagull comes just five months after the model's last Glory Edition update on March 6, with unchanged pricing and core specs.
BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has again updated its least expensive model, the Seagull, with unchanged pricing and core specs.
The Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker today rolled out the 2025 Seagull, just five months after the model's last Glory Edition update on March 6.
The 2025 Seagull continues to be offered in three variants with starting prices of RMB 69,800 ($9,650), RMB 75,800 and RMB 85,800, the same as the three variants of the Seagull Glory Edition.
In the March 6 Glory Edition update, the Seagull's starting price was lowered by RMB 4,000, or 5.42 percent, from its predecessor.
A few days ago, some local automotive media reported that BYD was about to launch the 2025 Seagull, with prices expected to go up by RMB 1,200 to RMB 2,200. BYD's announcement today means that those speculations have not become reality.
There are no visible changes to the compact battery electric vehicle (BEV) in terms of key specifications, with length, width and height remaining at 3,780 mm, 1,715 mm and 1,540 mm respectively, and a wheelbase of 2,500 mm.
The model continues to be powered by blade batteries based on lithium iron phosphate chemistry, with the two lowest-priced versions having pack capacities of 30.08 kWh and the highest-priced 38.88 kWh.
These three versions of the CLTC have a range of 305 kilometers, 305 kilometers and 405 kilometers respectively.
It has an electric motor with a maximum power of 55 kW and a peak torque of 135 Nm, which allows the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 50 kilometers per hour in 4.9 seconds. The specification sheet for the model does not mention the time it takes the model to accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour.
The Seagull is one of BYD's best-selling models, selling 280,217 units in 2023, contributing 9 percent of BYD's annual sales of 3,024,417, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
BYD sold 341,658 NEVs in June, up 35.02 percent year-on-year and up 2.97 percent from May, according to previously released data.
The Seagull sold 36,066 units in June, up 56.77 percent year-on-year and up 1.97 percent from May.
BYD will likely announce July sales figures later today.
