More than 10,000 fresh college graduates have joined BYD, the Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker announced today.

Nearly 70 percent of these newly hired freshmen have master's or doctoral degrees, and nearly 80 percent are research and development personnel, BYD said on Weibo.

BYD Group's businesses include automobiles, batteries, consumer electronics assembly, and rail transportation, with its automotive business consisting of brands including BYD, Denza, Fang Cheng Bao, and Yangwang.

As of the end of 2023, BYD had a total of 703,504 employees, including 524,673 production workers and 104,003 technicians, according to its annual report.

As of the end of last year, 31,506 of BYD's employees had a master's degree or higher and 89,914 had a bachelor's degree.

BYD has quickly become the world's largest NEV maker over the past few years, selling 3,024,417 NEVs in all of 2023, a 62.3 percent increase year-on-year.

The company sold 242,765 overseas NEVs in 2023, up 493.51 percent year-on-year.

In the first half of the year, BYD's NEV sales were 1,612,983 units, up 28.46 percent year-on-year.

Its overseas sales in the first half of the year were 203,404 units, up 173.8 percent year-on-year.

Besides being the world's largest NEV maker, BYD is also the second-largest EV battery maker.

In the January-May period, BYD's share of the global EV battery market was 15.7 percent, second only to CATL's 37.5 percent, according to South Korean market researcher SNE Research.
