Volkswagen Anhui, a joint venture with JAC controlled by Volkswagen, is the German automaker's first NEV-focused joint venture in China.
Volkswagen Anhui, the Chinese joint venture majority-owned by German carmaker Volkswagen, has officially launched its first electric vehicle (EV) model, the ID.UNYX, in China to tap the world's largest and most competitive EV market.
Volkswagen Anhui rolled out the ID.UNYX, an all-electric compact coupe SUV, as the newest member of Volkswagen's ID. family at today's launch event.
The model is Volkswagen's first to carry the golden logo and the first Volkswagen Anhui model to be sold in China, built at Volkswagen's plant in Hefei.
The ID.UNYX is available in three variants with starting prices of RMB 209,900 ($28,900), RMB 229,900 and RMB 249,900 respectively.
The five-seater is based on Volkswagen's MEB (modular electric drive matrix) platform and measures 4,663 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width and 1,610 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,766 mm.
These dimensions are similar to those of FAW-Volkswagen's ID.4 CROZZ, which measures 4,592 mm in length, 1,852 mm in width and 1,629 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,765 mm.
Both lower-priced variants of the ID.UNYX are single-motor rear-wheel-drive models with a peak motor power of 170 kW and peak torque of 310 Nm, capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds.
Its highest-priced variant comes with dual motors with 80 kW and 170 kW of peak power and 162 Nm and 310 Nm of peak torque for the front and rear motors respectively and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 5.6 seconds.
The three variants of the ID.UNYX are powered by the same battery pack, a lithium ternary battery with a capacity of 82.4 kWh supplied by CATL.
Its two less expensive variants have a CLTC range of 621 kilometers and the highest priced variant 565 kilometers.
Volkswagen Anhui, a joint venture between Volkswagen and Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group (JAC) established in 2017, is Volkswagen's first joint venture in China focused on new energy vehicles (NEVs).
The company was initially called JAC Volkswagen Automobile Co Ltd, and at the end of 2020, Volkswagen increased its stake in the company to 75 percent and had the company renamed Volkswagen Anhui.
Volkswagen Anhui has built Volkswagen's third MEB plant in China.
At the end of 2023, Volkswagen Anhui started production of the Cupra Tavascan, an all-electric model for export to the European market, which is a sister model of the ID.UNYX.
Cupra, a sub-brand of Volkswagen's SEAT brand, unveiled the Tavascan concept in 2019.
