China's new energy vehicle (NEV) retail sales growth accelerated last week compared to the previous week, improving its performance so far this month.

For the July 1-14 period, retail sales of passenger NEVs in China totaled 286,000 units, up 27 percent from a year ago and up 6 percent from a month ago, according to data released today by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

In the previous week, July 1-7, retail sales of passenger NEVs in China were 130,000 units, up 37 percent from the same period last year and up only 3 percent from the same period last month.

The faster growth rate for July 1-14 means that China's NEV retail sales growth accelerated last week from the first week of this month.

So far this year, cumulative retail sales of China's passenger NEVs totaled 4.399 million units, up 33 percent from a year earlier.

Wholesale sales of China's passenger NEVs from July 1-14 were 251,000 units, up 10 percent from the same period last year but down 13 percent from the same period last month, according to the CPCA.

So far this year, China's cumulative wholesale sales of passenger NEVs stood at 4.87 million units, up 29 percent from the same period last year.

From July 1-14, China's retail sales of all passenger vehicles were 578,000 units, up 3 percent from the same period last year and up 6 percent from the same period last month.

So far this year, cumulative retail sales of all passenger vehicles in China totaled 10.417 million units, up 3 percent year-on-year.

This means that China's NEV penetration at retail stood at 49.48 percent from July 1-14 and 42.23 percent year-to-date.

In the first week of July -- July 1-7 -- average daily retail sales of passenger cars in China were 39,189, up 6 percent year-on-year and up 9 percent from the previous month.

In the second week of July -- July 8-14 -- average daily retail sales of passenger cars in China were 43,330, down 1 percent year-on-year but up 4 percent from the previous month.

For July 1-14, China's wholesale sales of all passenger cars were 449,000 units, 23 percent lower year-on-year and 15 percent lower than the same period last month.

During July 1-7, average daily wholesale sales of passenger cars in China were 27,877, 26 percent lower year-on-year and 21 percent lower than the previous month.

During July 8-14, average daily wholesale sales of passenger cars in China were 36,276, down 22 percent year-on-year and 10 percent from the previous month.

Cumulative wholesale sales of Chinese passenger cars so far this year were 12.201 million units, up 5 percent year-on-year.
