The MG Cyber GTS, unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2024 in the UK, is a two-door, four-seat hardtop sports car.
SAIC Motor Corp's MG brand has unveiled a new electric sports car, the MG Cyber GTS, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2024 in the UK, after making the MG Cyberster available last November.
The MG Cyber GTS was officially unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK, Shao Jingfeng, design president of SAIC Motor R&D Innovation Headquarters, wrote on Weibo today.
It's a two-door, four-seat hardtop sports car, Shao said, sharing nine images.
Born in 1993, the Goodwood Festival of Speed is one of the world's most prestigious motorsports festivals, which usually takes place in the town of Goodwood, England, in June and July each year.
This year's edition of the event, which runs from July 11-14, will feature a slew of models, with BYD's (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) ultra-luxury brand Yangwang saying in May that the U9 electric supercar would be on display at the event.
Earlier today Shao shared a video on Weibo showing a rough outline of the MG Cyber GTS concept, indicating that the model will be a hardtop sports car.
On November 17, 2023, MG launched the soft-top Cyberster at the Guangzhou auto show in China.
The MG Cyberster is an affordable electric sports car and is currently offered in three versions in China with starting prices of RMB 319,800 ($44,000), RMB 339,800 and RMB 359,800 respectively.
Based on the MG Cyber Cube platform, the two-seater electric sports car measures 4,535 mm in length, 1,913 mm in width, 1,329 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,690 mm.
The most expensive variant of the MG Cyberster is powered by dual electric motors with a maximum power of 400 kW and a maximum torque of 725 Nm, which allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds.
The other two variants are single-motor versions with peak motor power of 231 kW and 250 kW, both of which can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds.
SAIC is currently facing higher additional tariffs in Europe, which could lead to its efforts to see more complexity there.
On July 4, the European Commission announced that it would impose additional tariffs on EVs from China starting July 5, at a rate of 37.6 percent for the SAIC. These tariffs are in addition to the original 10 percent rate.
SAIC said on July 5 that it would file further defenses because the European Commission's anti-subsidy investigation was unreasonable and erroneous.
