Chinese Li-ion battery maker Eve Energy has seen its US joint venture break ground on a battery plant that will supply batteries to local commercial vehicle partners when completed.

The joint venture, Amplify Cell Technologies (ACT), held a groundbreaking ceremony for its lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery plant in Mississippi on June 28, a moment witnessed by local officials, according to a June 30 statement from Eve Energy.

ACT is an independently operated joint venture in the US formed by Eve Energy US Holding, Electrified Power, Daimler Trucks & Buses, and Paccar, according to the Chinese battery maker.

The JV will produce square LFP batteries, primarily for selected North American commercial vehicle applications, with an annual production capacity of about 21 GWh, Eve Energy said, adding that the project is expected to provide more than 2,000 local jobs.

The project will begin shipping in 2026, and the three partners and their affiliates will be the primary customers, purchasing the vast majority of the products produced at the plant, Eve Energy said.

The joint venture is Eve Energy's first project under what it calls its "CLS model," which is designed to increase flexibility and competitiveness in global partnerships, it said.

The CLS model, which stands for "Cooperation," "License" and "Service," becomes Eve Energy's fifth strategic area and complements its existing battery business and industry synergies, it said.

Through the CLS model, Eve Energy hopes to create a collaborative network that transcends national boundaries to drive global industry chain enhancement and technological innovation, the company said.

Headquartered in Huizhou, Guangdong province, Eve Energy was founded in 2001 and listed on the ChiNext stock market, China's Nasdaq-style board for growth enterprises, in 2009.

The company's battery business includes consumer batteries, power batteries, and energy storage batteries.

On September 6, 2023, Eve Energy said in an exchange announcement that it would establish a minority-owned joint venture in the US to expand into the North American commercial vehicle power battery market.

The joint venture will receive licenses from Eve Energy or its subsidiaries to develop, manufacture and commercialize licensed products and pay licensing royalties as agreed, according to the announcement.
