China's retail sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) improved last week, although they are still down so far this month.
Retail sales of passenger NEVs in China for the June 1-16 period were 314,000 units, up 14 percent from a year ago but down 4 percent from a month ago, according to data released today by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).
In the June 1-10 period, retail sales of passenger NEVs in China stood at 180,000 units, up 27 percent from the same period last year but down 11 percent from the same period last month, data released by the CPCA last week showed.
The narrowing of the month-on-month decline means that China's NEV retail sales performance improved last week compared with the June 1-10 period.
So far this year, cumulative retail sales of China's passenger NEVs totaled 3.569 million units, up 32 percent year-on-year.
Wholesale sales of China's passenger NEVs for June 1-16 were 335,000 units, up 28 percent from a year ago and up 3 percent from a month ago, according to the CPCA.
Cumulative wholesale sales of China's passenger NEVs so far this year were 3,972,000 units, up 30 percent from a year earlier.
From June 1-16, China's retail sales of all passenger vehicles were 634,000 units, 13 percent lower than the same period last year and 14 percent lower than the same period last month.
So far this year, cumulative retail sales of all passenger cars in China totaled 8.707 million units, up 4 percent year-on-year.
This means that China's NEV penetration at retail stood at 49.52 percent from June 1-16 and 40.99 percent year-to-date.
In the first week of June -- June 1-10 -- average daily retail sales of passenger cars in China were 36,010, down 8 percent year-on-year and down 23 percent from the previous month.
In the second week of June -- June 11-16 -- average daily retail sales of passenger cars in China were 45,707, down 19 percent year-on-year but up 1 percent from the previous month.
For June 1-16, China's wholesale sales of all passenger cars were 619,000 units, 20 percent lower year-on-year and flat from the same period last month.
During June 1-10, average daily wholesale sales of passenger cars in China were 35,191, down 13 percent year-on-year but up 4 percent from the previous month.
During June 11-16, China's average daily wholesale sales of passenger cars were 44,439, down 28 percent year-on-year and down 5 percent from the previous month.
