The model looks like a production version of the Ocean-M concept, and the final name could also be Seal 06 GT, Seal Mini, or Seal 05 EV.
BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has made a filing in China for a hatchback that could be a production version of the Ocean-M concept that was unveiled at the 2024 Beijing auto show late last month.
China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) released its latest catalog of models that will soon be allowed to be sold on May 11 for public comment, and a BYD model with the rear logo Seal X is included.
The public can submit feedback between May 12 and 17. Entry into the catalog is the last major regulatory process before a model can be allowed to be sold in China.
The model is a battery electric vehicle (BEV), which has a length, width and height of 4,630 mm, 1,880 mm and 1,490 mm, respectively, and a wheelbase of 2,820 mm, according to its filing pages.
The model's main images on all three filing pages have the Seal X as the rear logo, but images involving optional extras suggest the model could also be named Seal 06 GT, Seal Mini, or Seal 05 EV.
The three filing pages show that the model is available in two single-motor versions and one dual-motor version.
Its single-motor version has two motor options with a maximum power of 160 kW and 165 kW respectively. The dual-motor version comes with a front motor with a maximum power of 110 kW and a rear motor with a maximum power of 200 kW.
The model supports a top speed of 200 kilometers per hour and has three options for the overall mass of 1,850 kg, 1,940 kg, and 2,060 kg.
Its production locations include BYD's production bases in Changsha, Hunan province, Hefei, Anhui province, Jinan, Shandong province, Zhengzhou, Henan province, and Shenzhen, Guangdong province.
BYD previewed the Ocean-M concept last month and displayed the model at the 2024 Beijing auto show.
The Ocean-M is the industry's first rear-wheel-drive performance hatchback, BYD said on April 25, the first day of the Beijing auto show.
The Ocean-M production car will go on sale in the third quarter of this year, with a price range of RMB 150,000 ($20,700) to RMB 200,000, BYD said at the time.
