China's retail sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) declined in the first three weeks of April from the previous month, underscoring that consumer sentiment remains subdued.
Retail sales of passenger NEVs in China totaled 420,000 units in the April 1-21 period, up 20 percent from the same period last year, but down 2 percent from the same period last month, according to data released today by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).
So far this year, cumulative retail sales of passenger NEVs in China totaled 2.192 million units, up 31 percent from the same period last year.
April 4-6 was this year's Qingming Festival, or Tomb Sweeping Day, holiday. April 7 was an additional work day, albeit a Sunday.
Wholesale sales of China's passenger NEVs from April 1-21 were 459,000 units, up 29 percent from a year earlier and up 5 percent from the same period in March, according to the CPCA.
Cumulative wholesale sales of China's passenger NEVs so far this year totaled 2.41 million units, up 30 percent from the same period last year.
From April 1-21, China's retail sales of all passenger vehicles were 852,000 units, 12 percent lower than the same period last year and 2 percent lower than the same period last month.
So far this year, cumulative retail sales of all passenger cars in China totaled 5.684 million units, up 9 percent year-on-year.
This means that China's NEV penetration at retail stood at 49.3 percent from April 1-21 and 38.56 percent year-to-date.
In the first week of April -- April 1-6 -- the average daily retail sales of passenger cars in China was 34,206, down 8 percent year-on-year and down 4 percent from the same period in March.
In the second week of April -- April 7-14 -- average daily retail sales of passenger cars in China were 38,825, down 13 percent year-on-year and down 3 percent from the same period in March.
In the third week of April -- April 15-21 -- average daily retail sales of passenger cars in China were 48,033, down 13 percent year-on-year and down 1 percent from the same period in March.
Wholesale sales of all passenger cars in China were 932,000 units from April 1-21, up 8 percent from a year earlier but down 8 percent from the same period last month.
During April 1-6, average daily wholesale sales of passenger cars in China were 31,974 units, up 13 percent year-on-year, but 10 percent lower than the same period last month.
During April 7-14, China's average daily wholesale sales of passenger cars were 42,822 units, up 13 percent year-on-year but down 8 percent from the same period last month.
During April 15-21, China's average daily wholesale sales of passenger cars were 56,765 units, up 1 percent year-on-year but down 7 percent from the previous month.
Cumulative wholesale sales of all passenger cars in China so far this year were 6,526,000 units, up 10 percent year-on-year.
