Retail sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) in China in the first two weeks of this month were only marginally higher than in the same period in March, partly due to the impact of a holiday.
From April 1-14, retail sales of passenger NEVs in China totaled 260,000 units, up 32 percent from the same period last year and up 2 percent from the same period last month, according to data released today by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).
So far this year, cumulative retail sales of passenger NEVs in China totaled 2.032 million units, up 34 percent from the same period last year.
April 4-6 was this year's Qingming Festival, or Tomb Sweeping Day, holiday. April 7 was an additional working day, albeit a Sunday.
Wholesale sales of China's passenger NEVs from April 1-14 were 268,000 units, up 43 percent from a year ago and up 8 percent from the same period in March, according to the CPCA.
Cumulative wholesale sales of China's passenger NEVs so far this year totaled 2.219 million units, up 32 percent from a year earlier.
From April 1-14, China's retail sales of all passenger vehicles were 516,000 units, 11 percent lower than the same period last year and 3 percent lower than the same period last month.
So far this year, cumulative retail sales of all passenger cars in China totaled 5.348 million units, up 10 percent year-on-year.
This means that China's NEV penetration at retail was 50.39 percent from April 1-14 and 38 percent year-to-date.
In the first week of April -- April 1-6 -- average daily retail sales of passenger cars in China were 34,206, down 8 percent year-on-year and down 4 percent from March. The figure was revised down slightly from the 34,273 reported by the CPCA last week.
In the second week of April -- April 7-14 -- average daily retail sales of passenger cars in China were 38,825, down 13 percent year-on-year and 3 percent lower than in March.
For April 1-14, wholesale sales of all passenger cars in China were 534,000 units, up 13 percent year-on-year but 9 percent lower than the same period last month.
During April 1-6, average daily wholesale sales of passenger cars in China were 31,974 units, up 13 percent from a year ago but 10 percent lower than the previous month. The figure was revised down from 32,057 units reported by the CPCA last week.
During April 7-14, average daily wholesale sales of passenger cars in China were 42,822 units, up 13 percent year-on-year but 8 percent lower than the previous month.
Cumulative wholesale sales of all Chinese passenger cars so far this year stand at 6.128 million units, up 11percent from a year earlier.
