Nio (NYSE: NIO) has one of the largest charging networks in China and has also built a popular charging app.
Jia Dian (加电), which literally means add power, saw the number of registered users surpass 5 million on April 17, the electric vehicle (EV) maker announced today.
The mobile app, which was launched by Nio in September 2019 and claims to support 90 percent of public charging piles in China, saw the number of registered users exceed 4 million on November 30, 2023.
Jia Dian App is Nio Power's platform to provide energy replenishment services to all EV owners, offering features including scanning charging QR codes, smart path planning, route navigation, and community interaction, Nio said today.
So far, the Jia Dian App has access to over 1.01 million charging piles from 49 charging service operators, in addition to Nio's 2,402 battery swap stations and 21,912 charging piles, according to the company.
The charging facilities accessed by the app cover 363 cities in China, with an overall coverage rate of 91 percent, Nio said.
Since its launch, the Jia Dian App has provided charging services for 205 brands of EVs, with a total of 20.71 million charging services and 450 million kWh of power usage.
The vehicles that use the Jia Dian App the most by charging volume are from Nio, Tesla, BYD, Xpeng, GAC Aion, Li Auto, Zeekr, Roewe, Hongqi, and BAIC.

As the most user-active replenishment service platform operated by a car company, the Jia Dian App also offers a community section for users to share their charging experiences, Nio said.
So far, the community has accumulated more than 2.61 million charging reviews and posts, and they help EV users discover quality charging resources.
The Jia Dian App is also expected to start offering a membership feature at the end of May, when users can pay to become a member and enjoy charging discount benefits, according to the EV maker.
Since its launch in September 2019, one of the main marketing points of the Jia Dian App has been its support for users to submit their feedback on the charging piles they have used, a crowdsourcing approach that allows users to avoid faulty charging piles.
The mobile app saw over 1 million registered users in June 2022, over 2 million in January 2023, and over 3 million in July 2023.
