The Xiaomi (HKG: 1810, OTCMKTS: XIACY) helmsman revealed the latest order figures for the smartphone giant's first electric vehicle (EV) model, the SU7, showing strong acceptance.
Xiaomi SU7 has gained more than 100,000 firm orders in just a few days after the sale started and the number of locked-in orders has exceeded 40,000, Xiaomi founder, chairman and CEO Lei Jun announced today at a ceremony for the first delivery of the EV model.
Xiaomi officially launched the SU7 at an event on the evening of March 28 and started taking customer orders at 10 pm on the same day.
The first deliveries of the model began today, with Lei personally delivering the vehicle to select owners at Xiaomi EV's factory in Yizhuang, Beijing.
"Many, many years from now, we will all surely remember today: the official debut of the Xiaomi car," Lei said at that delivery ceremony.
"The real transformation of smart cars has officially begun, and China will surely see the birth of a company as great as Tesla," he said.
In addition to the factory, Xiaomi EV's first stores in 28 Chinese cities have also begun deliveries of the SU7.
The SU7 is offered in three versions -- standard, Pro, and Max -- with starting prices of RMB 215,900 ($29,840), RMB 245,900, and RMB 299,900, respectively.
Deliveries of the customized standard and Max cars will start at the end of April, and the Pro version at the end of May, the company said at the model's launch event.
Meanwhile, Xiaomi is offering a Founders Edition for the SU7, limited to 5,000 units at the same price as the standard and Max editions.
Deliveries started today for these already-produced Founders Edition vehicles, and customers can't customize the vehicle's configuration.
