That new version of the Xiaomi SU7 is a single-motor model with more weight, which could mean a larger battery pack and range.
(Xiaomi filed for a new single-motor version of its first EV model, the SU7, ahead of its official launch.)
Xiaomi (HKG: 1810, OTCMKTS: XIACY) has filed for a new version of the SU7, ahead of the official launch of its first electric vehicle (EV) model at the end of this month.
China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) yesterday released its latest catalog of models that will be allowed to be sold for public comment, and a new version of the Xiaomi SU7 is included.
The public can submit their feedback between March 13 and March 19. Entry into the catalog is the last major regulatory process by which a model can be allowed to be sold in China.
The Xiaomi SU7 entering the catalog has the product model number BJ7000MBEVR3 and is a single-motor model.
The Xiaomi SU7 first entered the regulatory filing catalog in November 2023 with two product models -- BJ7000MBEVA1 and BJ7000MBEVR2 -- the former of which is a dual-motor model and the latter a single-motor model.
The latest Xiaomi SU7 to enter this catalog is basically the same as the previously filed single-motor model in terms of appearance and core specifications, differing only in weight.
The new Xiaomi SU7, model number BJ7000MBEVR3, has a gross weight of 2,090 kilograms, higher than the 1,980 kilograms of the single-motor version filed last year.
It continues to use lithium iron phosphate battery packs from CATL with unknown capacity information.
One possible guess is that the greater weight could mean that this new version of the SU7 comes with a larger battery pack and thus a longer range.
Last December, another regulatory filing revealed that the Xiaomi SU7's battery pack comes in two capacities -- 73.6 kWh and 101 kWh.
The 73.6-kWh battery pack weighs 579 kg, implying an energy density of around 127 Wh/kg. The Xiaomi SU7 with this battery pack has two CLTC range options of 628 km and 668 km, according to the December filing.
The 101-kWh battery pack weighs 645.8 kg, implying an energy density of around 156 Wh/kg and offers 750 km, and 800 km range options.
Xiaomi officially announced its entry into car building on March 30, 2021 and made the SU7 debut on December 28, 2023.
The company announced yesterday that it will officially launch the SU7 on March 28 and will allow customers to experience the model in select stores starting March 25.
