Xiaomi EV, the car-making arm of Chinese smartphone giant Xiaomi (HKG: 1810, OTCMKTS: XIACY), is expected to hold a launch event at the end of this month to officially roll out its first electric vehicle (EV) model, the SU7, local media outlet Lanjinger said today, citing sources.

Xiaomi EV is expected to start deliveries soon after the model's launch, the report noted.

Xiaomi announced its entry into car building on March 30, 2021, and made the SU7 debut on December 28, 2023. The price of the model has not yet been announced and the official launch date is yet to be set.

Xiaomi Group president Lu Weibing said the official launch of the Xiaomi SU7 will come "very soon" and indicated that domestic deliveries will begin as soon as the second quarter, according to a February 26 CNBC report.

On February 27, a executive said in a media interview following the launch of the company's updated Zeekr 001 that he had heard that Xiaomi's first EV model would be officially launched on March 28.

Xiaomi later responded to this by saying that the exact launch date of the Xiaomi SU7 will be announced through official channels.

Following the first batch of 2S (Sales & Service) stores embarking on renovations, Xiaomi's first directly managed auto stores in Beijing have begun to be renovated, according to the report from Lanjinger today.

The start of renovations of the directly managed stores is an important signal that its pricing and deliveries will be revealed soon, Lanjinger said, citing an observer.

Unlike the direct-sales model used by China's major new car makers, sales of the Xiaomi EV will include both directly managed stores and what it calls 2S authorized stores.

Xiaomi Group signed letters of intent with the first 14 sales and service partners on December 29 at its headquarters in Beijing, Lu said on January 2 on Weibo.

Xiaomi EV's new retail is based on a core of direct sales and utilizes quality external forces in pursuit of ultimate business efficiency and user experience, Lu said.

On February 29, Caijing reported that construction of Xiaomi EV's authorized 2S stores in Beijing has begun, with an expected construction period of more than a month.

Xiaomi EV will have 60-70 stores in the first batch, covering major Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities, according to Caijing.

Xiaomi SU7's top-trim will be priced at around $50,350, report says
