Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI) officially unveiled its first battery electric vehicle (BEV) model, the Li Mega MPV (Multi-Purpose Vehicle), at the Guangzhou auto show, which starts today, and is now accepting pre-orders.
Li Auto didn't announce how many versions of the Li Mega are available, or a specific price range, except to say that the model will be priced under RMB 600,000 yuan ($82,820).
"We are confident that the Li Mega will be the first choice for families priced above RMB 500,000 yuan. It will be the number one seller in that price range, regardless of energy form, regardless of body style," the company said, repeating earlier statements.
Customers can now pre-order the Li Mega by paying RMB 5,000 for priority delivery, a deposit that can be refunded at any time before the order is finalized.
Li Auto will officially launch the Li Mega in December and the exact price will be announced then.
Test-drive vehicles of the Li Mega will be available in Li Auto showrooms starting in January, with deliveries beginning in late February.
The Li Mega measures 5,350 mm in length, 1,965 mm in width and 1,850 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,300 mm.
The Li Mega features a distinctive styling that looks a bit like the locomotive of a Chinese high-speed train. Li Auto has also been emphasizing the feature in its marketing to gain a unique distinction.
The MPV will be the first to feature CATL's Qilin Battery that supports 5C ultra-fast charging, which Li Auto said will give it a 500-km range on a 12-minute charge.
While building the BEV, Li Auto began investing in charging facilities, aiming for 300 5C supercharging stations in China by the end of this year.
Li Auto said the Li Mega will have a powerful performance that can sprint from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 5.5 seconds.
The Li Mega has a wind resistance of just 0.215 Cd, the lowest among MPVs globally, Li Auto said.
Li Auto currently has three models on sale, the five-seater Li L7, and the six-seater Li L8 and Li L9, all of which are extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs), essentially plug-in hybrids.
The company delivered 40,422 vehicles in October, surpassing the 40,000 mark for the first time and the seventh consecutive record high.
