Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) has raised the price of the Yoke steering wheel option in China, following what it did in the US.
For Chinese Model S and Model X customers who get the optional Yoke steering wheel, the price is now RMB 8,000 ($1,100), up from RMB 2,000 previously, according to the latest information on Tesla's China website.
The Model S and Model X come standard with a circular steering wheel from the factory, which is included in the price of the car.
Tesla's move follows what it did in the US, where the company yesterday raised the price of the Yoke steering wheel to $1,000 from $250 previously.
The Yoke steering wheel is a half-spoke steering wheel that debuted in Tesla Model S and Model X models in the summer of 2021, and was standard at the time.
The steering wheel received mixed reviews after its introduction, with some owners believing that the Yoke steering wheel made controlling the vehicle more difficult, while others loved it.
In late April of this year, Tesla updated the configurations of the Model S and Model X in the US to come with a circular steering wheel by default. Customers who wanted the optional Yoke steering wheel had to pay an additional $250.
After the change in the US, Tesla adopted the same practice in China, where the Model S and Model X started to include the Yoke steering wheel as an option, and customers need to pay RMB 2,000 to get it.
Tesla has a factory in Shanghai that currently only produces the cheaper Model 3 and Model Y. Earlier this year, the new Model S and Model X were imported into China.
On September 1, Tesla drastically cut the prices of the Model S and Model X in China, after previously offering discounts.
