The host city for Nio Day 2023, as voted for by the Nio community, was revealed today, with Xi'an winning with a total of 8.78 million votes in favor, or 46 percent support, Nio announced on its mobile app.

William Li, Founder, chairman and CEO of Nio, congratulated Xi'an in a message after a Nio App article and thanked the owners in Guangzhou and Harbin for their participation.

Nio began allowing Nio App users to vote for the three candidate cities for Nio Day 2023 -- Harbin, Guangzhou, and Xi'an -- at 9 pm Beijing time on August 11, and the vote ended at 9 pm today.

The results of the vote showed that Guangzhou received 79 million votes, or 42 percent support, and Harbin received 23.28 million votes, or 12 percent support.

It is worth noting that the vote was not based on one person, one vote. Each Nio App user's vote is based on the number of Nio Points he has as of August 10.

Assuming a user has 1,000 Nio Points, then that user's support for a particular city is equivalent to 1,000 yes votes. Users earn Nio Points by means including referring others to buy Nio vehicles and logging into the Nio App.

Nio hosted its first Nio Day in 2017 and has given the choice of cities to host Nio Days to users in the community to decide from 2020.

Nio requires that candidate cities for hosting the new Nio Day event have not hosted a Nio Day in the past eight years. Since 2017, Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Suzhou, and Hefei have hosted Nio Day events.

Xi'an is one of the oldest cities in China, the capital of 13 historical dynasties, and home to the famous Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang and the Terracotta Warriors.

As of the end of 2022, Xi'an had a resident population of 13 million people and an urban population of 10.34 million, according to local statistical authorities.

Xi'an is one of China's biggest new energy vehicle (NEV) producing cities, and is home to one of 's (OTCMKTS: BYDDY) production bases.

In 2022, Xi'an produced 1,015,200 NEVs, accounting for 14 percent of all NEVs in China, surpassing Shanghai's 988,600 to become the city that produces the most NEVs in China.

BYD's Xi'an plant covers an area of 2.61 million square meters and has a planned annual capacity of 900,000 vehicles. Of the 1.02 million NEVs produced in Shaanxi in 2022, BYD's Xi'an plant contributed 97 percent, a local media report noted last month.

However, in the first half of this year, Shanghai regained the lead over Xi'an as the city producing the most NEVs in China.

As of August 13, Nio had 1,654 battery swap stations in China, including 30 in Xi'an, according to data monitored by CnEVPost.
