In June, Tesla had an 11.16 percent share of the Chinese NEV market and a 16.53 percent share of the Chinese BEV market.
Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) China sold 93,680 electric vehicles (EVs) in June, including 19,468 exported, according to data released today by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).
That means Tesla delivered 74,212 vehicles in China in June, down 4.78 percent from 77,938 in the same month a year ago, but up 74.58 percent units from 42,508 in May.
Tesla has a factory in Shanghai that produces the Model 3 and Model Y. Including exports, the two models sold 30,637 and 63,043 units, respectively, in June, according to the CPCA. A breakdown of their sales in China has not yet been released.
China's new energy vehicle (NEV) sales in June were 665,000 units, up 25.1 percent year-on-year and up 14.66 percent from May, according to the CPCA.
Battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales in June were 449,000 units, up 6.1 percent year-on-year and up 15.72 percent from May.
This means that Tesla's share of the Chinese NEV market was 11.16 percent in June, up from 7.33 percent in May but down from 14.65 percent a year earlier.
In China's BEV market, Tesla's share was 16.53 percent in June, up from 10.96 percent in May but down from 18.38 percent a year earlier, CnEVPost's monitoring showed.
Tesla's pattern is to produce cars for export in the first half of the quarter and for the local market in the second half. Its Shanghai factory exported 44.67 percent fewer cars in June than in May, but about 20 times as many as it did in the same period last year, when it was 968 units.
In the first half of the year, Tesla sold 476,539 China-made vehicles, up 61.67 percent from a year earlier.
Tesla's Shanghai factory exported 182,434 vehicles in the first half of the year, up 87.72 percent.
The US EV maker delivered 294,105 vehicles to Chinese customers in the first half of the year, up 48.86 percent year-on-year.
At Tesla's Shanghai plant, secrecy is currently high on the Model 3's production floor, but production line tuning is almost complete, local media outlet Jiemian said on July 7, citing an employee of a third-party supplier working at the plant.
Currently, prototypes of the revamped Model 3 are being tested on the factory's roads over the weekend, with further refinements being made to the production line, the employee said.
On July 7, Tesla increased referral incentives for the Model 3 and Model Y in China to boost sales of the two locally produced models.
Customers who buy a Model 3 or Model Y on the recommendation of another Tesla owner will receive a cash bonus of RMB 3,500 ($480), while the referrer will be rewarded with 7,000 points.
