Nio today signed a contract with the Jiangqiao town government in Shanghai's Jiading district to build its new international headquarters building there, according to a statement from the district government.
The electric vehicle company will create a landmark building with international influence in Jiading, according to the statement.
The target site for the project is Lot D2-10 in Jiangqiao town's north community, with a site area of about 98.8 mu (65,867 square meters) and a buildable area of about 178,000 square meters.
Nio's international business headquarters will have functions including R&D, offices and showrooms, and will be the landing point for its international business, including vehicle exports, the statement said.
Upon completion of the project, it is expected to bring in 10,000 high-end talents and about 2,000 new employees, according to the statement.
Nio's current international business headquarters is located at the Shanghai Automobile Innovation Park in the Jiading district, northwest of Shanghai, where it is responsible for vehicle development, manufacturing operations, marketing and service functions.
Nio's new international headquarters is about 20 kilometers from the current one, but closer to the center of Shanghai.
The company's China headquarters is located in Hefei, Anhui province, which is home to its two factories.
Nio originally had only one headquarters in Shanghai, and on February 25, 2020, the company announced that it would establish its China headquarters in Hefei to build an R&D, sales, and production base.
This is part of the company's agreement with Hefei, whose investment has allowed it to weather the financial crisis of late 2019 to early 2020.
On October 9, 2020, Nio officially opened its China headquarters in Hefei.
