The company used automotive fabrics including Seat Belt, Airbag and Haptex left over from car manufacturing as core materials to recycle and reuse to create a fashion collection.

The Blue Sky Lab design team presented a total of 59 eco-friendly trendy apparel items to convey what it calls "Urban", "Energy", and "Exploration" concepts.

The fashion show was attended by international supermodels as well as Nio users, according to the company.

Blue Sky Lab is a new fashion project created by Nio's brand Nio Life.

Nio went public on the New York Stock Exchange in 2018, the year in which Nio Life was officially launched.

Nio said at the time that it wanted to enhance user engagement with the brand through Nio Life.

In April 2020, Blue Sky Lab was established. Nio said that the project aims to turn leftover materials from car manufacturing into sustainable items, including clothing.

Interestingly, the day before the fashion show, a Weibo user accused Nio of pushing teasers of the event to vehicles that blocked the navigation interface, putting the company in the spotlight.

But some other users were quick to point out that the Nio push only existed in the notification center of the vehicle's screen, and only appeared on the screen after the user clicked on it.

Nio then responded that this was the company's own business notification push and that it does not use the car screen for advertising.
