New energy vehicles registered in Shanghai in the first half of the year were 133,000, an increase of 100,000 over the same period last year, according to data recently released by the Shanghai Public Security Traffic Police Department.
Of all the cars registered in Shanghai in the first half of the year, the proportion of new energy vehicles was as high as 35.76 percent, the data showed.
By the end of June, Shanghai had 513,000 new energy vehicles, of which 235,000 were pure electric vehicles.
In the first half of the year, 372,000 new motor vehicles were registered in Shanghai, and 267,800 new drivers were licensed.
By the end of June, China's new energy vehicle ownership reached 6.03 million, accounting for 2.06 percent of the total number of vehicles, according to data previously released by the Traffic Administration Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security.
Among them, 4.93 million were pure electric vehicles, accounting for 81.68 percent of the total number of new energy vehicles.
China registered 1.103 million new energy vehicles in the first half of the year, an increase of 774,000 units or 234.92 percent over the same period last year. It increased by 473,000 units, or 74.94 percent, compared to the first half of 2019, a record high.
Among them, China's new energy vehicle new registrations accounted for 7.8 percent of the new registrations of cars, according to the data.
Notably, Shanghai's strategic emerging industries and pioneering industries development plan issued in July showed that by 2025, the output value of Shanghai's new energy vehicle manufacturing industry will reach about RMB 350 billion ($54 billion).
