Xpeng Motors is the top-ranked brand in terms of innovation in the Chinese market's vehicle intelligence experience, surpassing , J.D. Power said in a report released Aug. 5.

Local Chinese auto brands are ahead of joint venture brands in terms of intelligence in 2021, especially new car-making brands with outstanding technological innovation, J.D. Power said.

In the ranking of intelligent experience of new energy vehicles, Xpeng ranked first with 615 points, Tesla ranked second with 597 points and ranked third with 577 points, the report said.

By comparison, the average score for mainstream new energy vehicles was 547.

In the traditional energy vehicle camp, the top five were WEY, Lynk & Co, Hongqi, Venucia and Chery, all local brands.

Changan Mazda, Changan Ford, GAC Toyota, Dongfeng Nissan and other joint venture brands are in the second tier, exceeding the mainstream conventional energy vehicle average.

The report said local new car companies were ahead of the other brand camps in the Brand Innovation Index, Functional Performance Index and Market Depth Index, while conventional energy vehicles lagged behind the industry average with 492 points.

The report said that although the overall development level of conventional energy vehicle intelligence is relatively backward, among them, local high-end brands are in the top three of conventional energy vehicles with a big lead over many joint venture brands.

Among luxury conventional energy vehicles, Mercedes-Benz ranked first with 550 points, while BMW and Porsche tied for second with 534 points.

J.D. Power said the study was based on 32,141 conventional energy vehicle owners who purchased their vehicles between June 2020 and March 2021 and 3,976 new energy vehicle owners who purchased their vehicles between September 2020 and March 2021.

The study covers 264 conventional energy models from 58 brands and 50 new energy models from 28 brands, with data collected in 70 Chinese cities between December 2020 and May 2021.
