, the smartphone giant that made a high-profile announcement this year about jumping on the car-making bandwagon, continues to lay out its business in the sector.

The company established the Guangdong Hengqin Xiaomi Technology Development Co in southern China's Guangdong province on Aug. 2 with a registered capital of RMB 1 million ($154,708), according to information from data provider Tianyancha.

The company's business scope includes import and export of technology, import and export of goods, information system integration services, software development, manufacturing of communications equipment and sales of new energy vehicles.

Since Xiaomi officially announced its entry into the car-making business on March 30 this year, a number of places, including Beijing, Shanghai and Wuhan, have been predicted to be approaching Xiaomi about settling on a Xiaomi car.

Lei Jun, the founder of Xiaomi, has been visiting various places since the announcement of the car business, frequenting various OEMs, including , SGMW, and the Great Wall Motors.

On July 28, Lei said on Weibo that Xiaomi's autonomous driving division of its automotive business has launched a recruitment drive, with plans to hire the first 500 engineers.

Xiaomi will develop L4 autonomous driving technology, and the positions support multiple locations in China, the Weibo post said.
