SAIC says its new energy passenger vehicle sales exceeded 10,000 for fifth consecutive month

SAIC Group said Wednesday that its new energy passenger vehicle sales exceeded 10,000 for the fifth consecutive month, up 92 percent in July from a year earlier. It did not disclose specific figures for July.

SAIC passenger car sales in July were nearly 70,000 units, up 17 percent year-over-year, and cumulative sales from January to July were up 54 percent year-over-year.

The combined sales of SAIC's own brands, Roewe, MG and R new energy vehicles, broke 10,000 for four consecutive months, the company said.

Roewe sold nearly 30,000 units of all models, MG sold nearly 40,000 units globally in a single month, up 55 percent from the previous month, and R orders were up 12 percent from the previous month, the company said.

SAIC sold more than 20,000 units overseas in July, up 103 percent from the previous year, it said.

By the end of June, SAIC's new energy vehicle sales accounted for nearly 13 percent of the company's overall wholesale sales, well above the overall industry share of about 9 percent.

Although SAIC has not yet announced specific data on July's new energy vehicle sales, the company's first-half sales information shows that both wholesale and retail sales of new energy vehicles exceeded 280,000 units, up more than 400 percent year-over-year and double the overall market growth rate.

SAIC said it will next launch the R ES33, the Roewe iMAX8 pure electric version and the convertible pure electric supercar MG Cyberster.

At the same time, SAIC's new generation power battery system will address the three issues of safety, charging and economy, which are of concern to electric vehicle users, and the power battery system is scheduled to go into production at the end of 2021.

Mini EV is priced at RMB 28,800 ($4,451)-RMB 43,600, and its parts cost up to about RMB 20,000.
