The central Chinese province of Henan was recently hit by a rare rainstorm, forcing the suspension of production at some car companies.

Nissan's production base in the capital city of Zhengzhou is in a state of temporary suspension due to heavy rains, yicai.com said Wednesday, citing a source from Nissan China.

The plant was affected to some extent, but it was brought under control in time and production will resume as soon as possible, the report said, citing a Dongfeng Nissan insider.

Dongfeng Nissan's production sites are located in Guangzhou, Xiangyang, Dalian and Zhengzhou.

From January to June, Nissan's cumulative sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in China were 706,350 units, up 18.4 percent year-over-year.

Recently, Zhengzhou experienced rare and continuous heavy rainfall and caused flooding. So far, the floods have killed 12 people, and about 100,000 people have been relocated and sheltered there, the official Xinhua News Agency reported on Wednesday.

From 18:00 on July 18 to 0:00 on July 21, the city's cumulative average precipitation was 449 mm. There was a total of 201.9 mm of rain fell in Zhengzhou between 16:00-17:00 on July 20, setting a new record for one-hour rainfall on land in China, according to the report.

In response to the disaster, Henan Province raised its flood control emergency response level from II to the highest level of I at 3 a.m. on July 21.
