A number of companies have announced donations to Henan Province, which has been hit by heavy rains and floods, with BYD being the latest.
BYD announced on Wednesday that the BYD Charitable Foundation donated RMB 20 million ($3.1 million) to the Zhengzhou Charity Federation for disaster relief emergency initiatives and post-disaster recovery work.
BYD has opened access to emergency relief services for vehicle owners and opened all 4S stores in Zhengzhou as emergency shelters where nearby residents can enter for assistance, the company said.
Earlier today, Li Auto announced a donation of RMB 10 million to Henan. Xpeng Motors then announced a donation of RMB 15 million, and Nio announced a donation of RMB 15 million.
So far, a number of Internet companies and smartphone manufacturers, including Ant Group, Xiaomi, JD.com, Hema, Realme and Pinduoduo, have announced donations of materials to support Henan.
Since July 18, Zhengzhou, the capital city of Henan Province, has been hit by heavy rainfall, with cumulative average precipitation reaching 449 mm and 38 percent of weather stations measuring cumulative precipitation of over 500 mm.
The rainstorm was extremely rare, with some Internet users claiming that the amount of rainfall was like having 150 reservoirs of Hangzhou's West Lake dumped into Zhengzhou in one hour.
The disaster has caused 25 dead and 7 missing, according to CCTV on Wednesday.
