From January to April 2021, China's new energy vehicle (NEV) production and sales both exceeded 700,000 units, according to data released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) on May 27.
Among them, the production of new energy vehicles was 750,000 units, up 2.6 times year-on-year, and sales were 732,000 units, up 2.5 times year-on-year.
Compared with the same period of the previous year, the production and sales of pure electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles continued to maintain high growth, the CAAM said.
This drove the rapid growth in revenue of the auto manufacturing industry, which reached RMB 2.8802 trillion yuan ($451 billion) in January to April, up 51.7 percent year-on-year.
Its growth rate is 18.1 percentage points higher than the growth rate of revenue of industrial companies above scale in the same period, accounting for 7.6 percent of the total revenue of these companies.
From January to April, the automobile manufacturing industry achieved a profit of 179.96 billion yuan, up 1.6 times year-on-year, accounting for 6.9 percent of the total profit of these companies.
