Didi unveils D1, a car for sharing and built in partnership with BYD

Didi founder Cheng Wei said that while previous cars were designed and produced for families, the D1 was built for sharing.

"Today is the debut of the customized vehicle D1, which is a bit like the first shared vehicle that came out a few years ago and looked like a bicycle, but a few years later made a lot of changes for our lives", Cheng said.

He said that the D1 is able to give users the space of an Audi A6 at an affordable price; it comes with a safety system that only cars priced at 300,000 RMB would have.

Cheng said Didi plans to launch the D3 with autopilot in 2025. Didi wants to remove the cockpit by 2030 to enable fully automated driving.
