The Wuhan owner, who was previously denied delivery by Tesla, finally managed to get his Model 3. However, the company denied his claim that he was blacklisted by Tesla in a statement.
Tesla claims that it has never blacklisted any owner and never has such a list. The company has been in active communication with the owner, offering multiple solutions, all of which have been vetoed by the owner's "family member".
Tesla said the delivery data showed that the vehicle was ordered on July 28 on Tesla's website, while the order that was canceled was placed on August 14, which is inconsistent with the owner's description of using a family member's name to place the order due to being blacklisted.
The user who participated in the Pinduoduo group purchase Zhang Yi (a pseudonym) confirmed to the Chinese media that the car has been picked up and on the insurance in the evening of August 18. However, the account he used to purchase the car was a family account.
Pinduoduo said on August 18 that with the assistance of Yi Auto and Pinduoduo, the owner of the group purchase, who had previously been refused delivery and cancelled his order by Tesla, had successfully picked up the car and had insured the vehicle.
Subsequently, a Weibo user, "JJeff_哲," claiming to be a Tesla employee, posted a message denying that delivery had been made. The Weibo was retweeted by Grace Tao, Tesla's vice president of external affairs.
"I placed a new order from the website in the name of my family and Yi Auto and Pinduoduo helped me advance the cost and returned it to them when my previous refund came back," Sina Tech quoted the user as saying.
Tesla had earlier offered a solution in a media interview, saying that the owner had the option of going to the official website to place a new order or initiate a lawsuit.
"After the order was cancelled, I tried to reorder in my personal name and Tesla customer service said I was no longer eligible," the owner said. He added, "Then I was ready to initiate a lawsuit, but it took a long time, so I had to place an order in my family's name first, and with the help of Yi Auto, I got the car."
"After I said I was going to sue Tesla, they called me tonight to negotiate, but I was still persuaded to accept the refund." The owner confirmed that Tesla did come to communicate on the night of the pickup but did not offer a real solution.
"I don't know why these people are spreading rumors. I'm very happy to have mentioned the car, but I'm also very tired," said the owner of the car.
