Chinese EV maker Nio's mid-size electric SUV, the EC6, will be priced and launched during the Chengdu Motor Show, with deliveries scheduled for September, industrious media xcar.com.cn said citing unofficial sources.
As the third mass-produced model by Nio (NYSE: NIO) after the ES8 and ES6, the Nio EC6 can be seen as the ES6's fastback version.
It has a sportier feel compared to the ES6 and has a maximum NEDC range of 615km, surpassing the ES6 and the ES8 models.
The front face of the Nio EC6 remains virtually unchanged, still sporting the Nio's signature X-Bar design, while the split headlights provide a very high degree of legibility.
Body dimensions are not exactly available yet, but they are not expected to deviate much from the ES6. For reference, the ES6 measures 4850*1965*1758 mm in length, width and height respectively, with a wheelbase of 2900 mm.
The drag coefficient is also reduced to 0.27 Cd with the addition of the fastback design, but the rear passenger space and luggage capacity will be reduced.
The Nio EC6 has an integrated domed glass roof of 2.1 sqm, with almost the entire roof being glass, allowing for a sense of openness and transparency to the interior of the car.
The glass has an energy transmittance of 15 percent for effective insulation, plus it cuts out 99.5 percent of UV rays.
The EC6, like the ES6, will be available in performance and sport versions. The performance version features a power combination of front permanent magnet motor and rear induction motor, which delivers 400 kW (544 hp) of maximum power and 725 Nm of maximum torque. It has a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 4.7s.
The sport variant is equipped with twin permanent magnet motors with 320 kW (435 hp) of maximum power and 610Nm of maximum torque. Its acceleration time of 0-100 km/h is 5.6s.
The new car is offered in both 70 kWh and 100 kWh battery packs, and depending on the configuration, the combined NEDC range is starting at 425 km. The Sport model with the 100 kWh battery pack has a range of up to 615 km.
