Local automotive media outlet Auto Home today shared several spy shots of the first model of Nio Firefly, exposing the interior of the model for the first time.
Some new spy shots have revealed the interior of the first model of Nio's (NYSE: NIO) third brand, internally codenamed Firefly, as the first model of the electric vehicle (EV) maker's second sub-brand, Onvo, has just gone on sale.
Local automotive media outlet Auto Home today shared several spy shots of what it said is the first model of Firefly, marking the first time the interior of the model has been spied.
The Firefly model packs two screens, including an LCD dashboard and a floating center screen, one more than Onvo's first model, the L60, the report said.
The's car's steering wheel has a two-tone design that continues Nio's family design, the report noted.
Its gearshift is expected to be located below the steering wheel, similar to the Volkswagen ID.3 design, according to the report.
Onvo, Nio's second brand under the internal codename Alps, officially launched its first model, the L60, on September 19 with a starting price of RMB 206,900 ($29,310) including the battery.
Nio's management had previously mentioned that Firefly will target the market with prices ranging from RMB 100,000 to RMB 200,000 yuan.
On March 14, William Li, founder, chairman and CEO of Nio, said in his first live broadcast on Douyin, a short video platform, that Firefly is to Nio what Mini is to BMW.
Although the Firefly brand focuses on small cars, it will be built based on European five-star safety standards and support battery swap, he said.
In an interview with local media in early May, Nio co-founder and president Qin Lihong said the first Firefly product is ready, but the launch of the new brand will be delayed until the second quarter of 2025, given the overall brand sequence.
The first model of Nio Firefly is expected to be ready by the end of this year, and the smart driving system will be based on a vendor-supplied solution, local media outlet TMT Post reported on August 30.
Firefly's first model falls somewhere between a small SUV and a compact SUV, the report said.
Similar to Nio and Onvo's models, Firefly's models will also support battery swap, but will not be able to share battery swap stations with them.
The Firefly brand won't be able to use Nio's existing battery swap stations; it will have exclusive, smaller stations, Li said at a June 30 user communication event.
