He Xiaopeng, chairman and CEO of Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV), showed in a video how the company's NGP (Navigation Guided Pilot) feature performs on a German highway, as the company aims to start developing globally usable assisted driving features this year.

"(Xpeng's) smart driving team shared a video about testing NGP on the highway in Germany, and it's going well," Mr. He said in sharing the video on Weibo today.

Xpeng's XNGP (Xpeng Navigation Guided Pilot) has strong generalization capabilities and is is almost straightforward to use in Europe, he said, citing feedback from the company's German team.

Smart driving software trained to game domestic traffic and road conditions in China has an extraordinarily smooth experience overseas, said Mr. He.

"From a technical point of view, it's just around the corner for higher-level smart driving features to be available globally," he said.

The AI chauffeur function in China and XNGP's coverage of Chinese city road is steadily progressing, with XNGP's available safe roadways in cities growing at a rate of nearly 100,000 kilometers per month, according to Mr. He.

Xpeng is one of the car companies with the strongest assisted driving capabilities in China, and hopes to have the feature available overseas starting this year.

Xpeng will push for global development of XNGP this year and next, with development of a globally usable highway NGP feature starting in 2024 and a globally usable XNGP in 2025, Mr. He said on January 30.

Mr. He said he expects owners to have the same smart driving experience when driving Xpeng vehicles overseas as they do at home.

The company will launch point-to-point XNGP capabilities in China in 2024, which will additionally cover internal roads and parking lot scenarios in addition to highways and city roads, Mr. He mentioned at the time.

XNGP is Xpeng's Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), similar to 's (NASDAQ: TSLA) FSD (Full Self-Driving).

The electric vehicle (EV) maker's goal is for the XNGP to provide driver assistance in all scenarios, including highways, city roads, internal campus roads, and parking lots.

The feature was initially available only on highways, then known as Highway NGP. Xpeng then gradually expanded its coverage to urban areas, known as City NGP.

On February 29, Xpeng announced that the XNGP feature became available on all roads in China, and in the meantime, it continues to advance road verification.
