BYD received 5,345 orders at the Bangkok auto show, which ended on April 7, placing it in second place for orders received at the event, according to a statement it made today. That's behind Toyota's 8,540 units.

BYD's majority-owned Denza, a joint venture with Mercedes-Benz, opened pre-orders for its D9 MPV (Multi-Purpose Vehicle) at the show and received orders for 647 units.

The 45th Bangkok International Motor Show began on March 25, with media days from March 25-26 and public days from March 27 to April 7.

BYD displayed models from its brands, including the BYD brand, Yangwang, Fang Cheng Bao, and Denza, at the show, marking the first time its entire brand has been displayed at an overseas auto show at the same time.

The company rolled out the 2024 Atto 3 long range version, called Yuan Plus in China, at the auto show.

BYD also brought the new right-hand drive Song Max EV, the BYD Sealion -- known in China as the Sea Lion 07, the BYD Seal U -- known in China as the Song Plus EV. The Yangwang U9, the Fang Cheng Bao's Bao 5 made their first appearance in Thailand.

In the third quarter of 2024, BYD's passenger car production base in Thailand will be completed and put into production, it said today, repeating a previously mentioned timetable.

In September 2022, BYD signed a land purchase agreement with Thai industrial property developer WHA Industrial Development PLC, a subsidiary of WHA Group, to build an EV plant there.

BYD held a groundbreaking ceremony for the plant in Thailand last March, as well as a delivery ceremony for the 9,999th and the 10,000th BYD Atto 3.

The plant is expected to start production in 2024 with an annual capacity of about 150,000 units, BYD said at the time.

BYD sold 302,459 new energy vehicles (NEVs) in March, up 46.06 percent year-on-year and 147.29 percent from February, according to data it announced on April 1.

In March, BYD sold 38,434 NEVs in overseas markets.
