BYD's (OTCMKTS: BYDDY) personalized sub-brand, Fang Cheng Bao, has unveiled official images of its new model, the Bao 3, after core specification information for the model was revealed in a regulatory filing yesterday.
Fang Cheng Bao refers to the Bao 3 as the production version of the Super 3 concept and shared nine images on Weibo today showing the model with three exterior colors -- black, white and green.
Yesterday, China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) released its latest catalog of models that will be allowed to be sold for public comment, and the Bao 3 was included, showing off its core specs.
The public can submit feedback between June 14-20. Entry into the catalog is the last major regulatory process by which a model can be allowed to be sold in China.
The Bao 3 in the catalog has only one all-electric version with five seats. It measures 4,605 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width and 1,720 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,745 mm.
The model is powered by dual electric motors, the front motor with a maximum power of 110 kW and the rear motor with a maximum power of 200 kW.
The Bao 3 weighs 2,150 kilograms and supports a top speed of 201 kilometers per hour.
The model is powered by lithium iron phosphate batteries supplied by BYD's battery division FinDreams Battery, according to the filing.
BYD officially launched the Fang Cheng Bao brand unveiled the brand's first model, the Bao 5 off-road SUV, on August 16, 2023.
The plug-in hybrid Bao 5 was officially launched on November 9, 2023, and deliveries began on November 23.
On April 16, Fang Cheng Bao unveiled the Bao 8, as well as two concept cars, the Super 3 SUV and the Super 9 supercar, at its spring launch event in Shenzhen.
The Super 3, the concept car for the Bao 3, is based on a starfighter-inspired design, with clean, three-dimensional lines creating a sculpted metal body structure that delivers a flamboyant expression of individuality, Fang Cheng Bao said at the time.
Fang Cheng Bao did not say when the Bao 3 would be launched or what its price range might be.
