Nio (NYSE: NIO) unveiled an App Store for the smart cockpit of its vehicles, which is expected to deliver a better experience with popular apps adapted specifically for the vehicle's center screen.
The App Store for Nio's vehicle cockpits will go live in the next few days, with more than 40 apps that have already been adapted to be available starting September 22, the electric vehicle company said at the Nio IN 2023 innovation day event in Shanghai today.
The App Store is a content eco-platform created by Nio for its users, with partners building native apps on the premise of safely calling on the vehicle's capabilities, it said.
By the end of September, the App Store is expected to have more than over 40 apps live, seven of which are the first time they have completed adaptations with vehicles, according to Nio.
These soon-to-be-available apps include the social media platform Xiaohongshu, the video platform Youku, and the short video platform Kuaishou.
In addition to offering these apps, the center screen of Nio's vehicles can also display a simulated phone if the Nio Phone is connected to the vehicle.
Nio today launched its first smartphone, the Nio Phone, which enables seamless connectivity and content sharing between the phone and the vehicle.
One of the ways in which the Nio Phone interacts with Nio vehicles is by displaying a virtual phone on the vehicle's center screen, from which the user can use apps installed in the Nio Phone directly.
