The man at the helm of Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI) revealed the company's vision in an employee letter today, demonstrating the extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) maker's judgment of future trends.

Li Auto's vision is to be the world's leading artificial intelligence (AI) company by 2030, said Li Xiang, the company's founder, chairman and CEO, in an all-employee letter today.

Today is the first working day after the Chinese New Year holiday from January 21 to January 27, even though it is the weekend on the calendar. The helmsmen of several car companies are kicking off a new year for their companies with internal staff letters.

At its inception, Li Auto hopes that 15 years from now the company can build a complete systematization of its capabilities in the field of artificial intelligence (Software 2.0), Li said.

Smart electric vehicles with self-driving capabilities will be the first AI robots, as well as creating the mother ecology of AI in the physical world, he said.

Li Auto hopes to use AI robots to change the efficiency and experience of the physical world for the benefit of every family and every member of the family through its continuous investment in R&D in the field of AI, the internal letter said.

The company hopes, through continued efforts and rounds of industry elimination, to become the global leader in AI by 2030, Li said.

Li listed his views on software iteration as follows:

Software 1.0: Humans design logic, humans program, machines compute, humans use software.

Software 2.0: Machines learn from humans (closed loop of perception, decision making, execution, and feedback), algorithms are trained in the cloud, machines use the algorithms, and machines serve humans.

In 2023, the landing of products equipped with Software 2.0 will officially begin in China, Li said.

In the electric vehicle space, city NOA navigation-assisted driving based on BEV sensing and Transformer models that can be trained end-to-end without relying on high-precision maps will be in use by the end of 2023, Li said, adding that this will be an important starting point for Software 2.0's transformation of the physical world.

In addition to mentioning the vision, Li repeated in his letter that the company's mission is to create mobile homes and happy homes.

Li Auto looks to continue to transform the two most important physical spaces in people's lives - the car and the home -- through renewable energy and AI, two of the most important new technologies of the next 100 years, he said.

Li Auto's values are to go beyond the needs of the user to create the most exceptional products and services, Li said in the letter.

Li Auto delivered a record 21,233 vehicles in December and 133,246 vehicles for the full year 2022, up 47.25 percent from 90,491 vehicles in 2021.

Li Auto is currently selling two models -- the Li L9 and Li L8 -- both of which are EREVs and are plug-in hybrids.

The company will host the launch of the Li L7 on February 8, 2023, and show cars and cars for test drives will begin arriving at Li Auto's retail centers on February 9, it announced on Weibo on December 30.
