That's up 31.33 percent from 308,600 units in the year-ago quarter and up 17.87 percent from 343,830 units in the third quarter.

However, it is worth noting that this fell short of market expectations of 420,800 units and was the third consecutive quarter to fall short of expectations.

The delivery volume includes 388,131 Model 3s and Model Ys, and 17,147 Model Ss and Model Xs.

In China, Tesla has a factory in Shanghai that produces the Model 3 and Model Y. It is its largest plant in the world, with an annual capacity of about 1.1 million units per year.

Tesla appears to be facing demand problems in China as the country's economic growth slows and there is stronger competition from local electric vehicle companies.

Tesla will run production for 17 days from January 3 to January 19 and stop production of electric vehicles from January 20 to January 31 to allow for an extended break during the Chinese New Year, Reuters reported in a December 27 story, citing an internal schedule.

Tesla did not specify the reason for the production slowdown in its output plan, but it is not an established practice to stop production for an extended period during the Chinese New Year, the report noted.

Tesla sold 100,291 China-made vehicles in November, including 62,493 vehicles delivered in China and 37,798 vehicles exported, data released last month by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) showed.

The electric vehicle giant's December sales figures in China are expected to be released by the CPCA later this week.

In addition to the Model 3 and Model Y, Tesla is about to restart the Model S and Model X deliveries in China.

Tesla will announce prices for the Model S and Model X in China on January 6, and their deliveries will begin in the first half of 2023, the electric vehicle giant said at the Guangzhou auto show on December 30.

On October 11, China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced a catalog of NEVs exempt from vehicle purchase tax, and the Model S and Model X were included.

Tesla will announce its fourth quarter and full-year 2022 financial results after the market closes on Wednesday, January 25.

At that time, Tesla will issue a brief announcement with links to updates for the fourth quarter and full year 2022.

Tesla management will hold a live webcast question and answer session at 4:30 pm Central US time that day to discuss the company's financial and business results and outlook.
