Nio (NYSE: NIO) has opened a new delivery center in Shanghai, its largest in the world, demonstrating the importance the electric vehicle company places on the city where it has its global headquarters.
The delivery center, which opened today, is located in Nanxiang, Jiading district, Shanghai, about 2 kilometers from a nearby Nio House, according to an article in the Nio App today.
The facility has a total area of 50,000 square meters and contains functional areas including a rest area, delivery area, vehicle preparation area and parking lot.
Among them, the delivery area covers 5,760 square meters, with a total of 100 delivery spaces, and up to 200 vehicles can be delivered in a single day.
As of today, Nio has 49 delivery centers in China. It added 25 delivery centers in 2022.
This is the latest move for Nio in Shanghai, where on August 18, 2022, Nio opened a new service center in the Songjiang district, its 10th in the city and the largest in China.
The service center has an overall area of over 12,000 square meters, with up to 70 repair stations and 129 standard parking spaces, covering maintenance, sheet metal, paint, vehicle diagnostics, and car wash.
In addition to services including repairs, the service center also has a showroom and offers test drives and test rides.
For Nio, Shanghai is a crucial market.
In 2021, Nio has the No. 1 market share of 23 percent of all fuel and electric SUVs priced over RMB 350,000 in Shanghai, William Li, the company's founder, chairman and CEO, said during a quarterly report call on March 25, 2022.
On November 30, Nio saw its 100th battery swap station in Shanghai go live, and the network officially completed its initial coverage of all districts in the city.
By then, 87 percent of Nio owners in Shanghai had a battery swap station within 3 km of their homes.
In Shanghai, Nio's battery swap stations have served a cumulative total of 41,866 owners, with 52.09 percent of the power used by their vehicles coming from the facility, Nio said in November.
