Nio launched a program called Clean Parks late last year to help protect environmentally sensitive areas and has secured some high-profile partners.

On August 15, Nio entered into a partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), which will be a co-builder of its Clean Parks platform, the electric vehicle company said in a post on its mobile app today.

The two will work together to promote in-depth cooperation in environmental protection in nature reserves, youth empowerment, and the development of eco-investment standards.

Based on the collaboration, Nio will provide electric vehicles, build clean energy infrastructure and construct a clean and low-carbon energy self-cycle system for selected nature reserves.

As part of the Clean Parks initiative, Nio will also work with UNDP to support youth entrepreneurship and encourage young innovators to explore business solutions to promote biodiversity conservation and ecological protection.

UNDP will use its expertise and influence in sustainable business investment to mobilize multi-stakeholders and work with Nio to promote relevant standards, guidelines or catalogs based on green eco-investment and biodiversity conservation.

The deteriorating ecological environment poses a challenge to both social development and human survival. With this in mind, at the UN Sustainable Development Summit on September 25, 2015, the 193 UN member states officially adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Nio App article mentioned.

These SDGs aim to shift to a sustainable development path by thoroughly addressing social, economic and environmental development issues in an integrated manner from 2015 to 2030.

Nio's collaboration with UNDP will address seven of these SDGs:

Goal 5: Gender Equality.

Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation.

Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy.

Goal 12: Sustainable Consumption and Production.

Goal 13: Climate Action.

Goal 14: Life Below Water.

Goal 15: Life On Land.

William Li, founder, chairman and CEO of Nio, and Qin Lihong, co-founder and president of the company, along with executives from UNDP and officials from China's Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE), attended the signing ceremony.

"We are very pleased to see an international organization like UNDP and a new energy company like Nio actively cooperating and working together on ecological co-construction," stated Liu Ning, a deputy director of the MEE.

Since 2005, UNDP has worked with the Chinese government to implement 24 Global Environment Facility (GEF) biodiversity projects.

At the Nio Day 2021 event held last December 18, Nio announced the launch of the Clean Parks program, which aims to help ecological guarding of environmentally sensitive areas, in addition to the launch of the new sedan ET5.

Over the next three years, Nio will invest RMB 100 million ($15 million) to support the use of electric vehicles and the construction of clean energy infrastructure in nature reserves around the world, Li said at the time.

On April 22, Nio announced a strategic partnership with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), which will be one of the co-sponsors of Nio's Clean Parks initiative.
